What Is Pityriasis Versicolor?
Pityriasis Versicolor is a long-term (chronic) fungal infection of the outer layer of the skin. It is fairly common and it is caused by a type of fungus called Malassezia. This fungus is normally found on human skin, and it only causes a problem in certain settings. This condition is most commonly found in adolescents and young adults and typically occurs in hot climates.
Pityriasis versicolor treatment
Patches of skin may be darker or lighter than your normal skin colour, or may be red, brown or pink. They tend to develop gradually and may join up to form larger patches over time.
The areas most often affected by pityriasis versicolor include the back, chest, upper arms, neck and tummy. Although it may look unpleasant and the patches are sometimes itchy, pityriasis versicolor is harmless.
