Vitiligo

Vitiligo is an autoimmune skin condition that results in loss of color in patches on the skin and can affect hair-bearing areas as well. The discolored area(s) may grow larger with time and are more prone to skin cancer development, if left untreated. Vitiligo affects people of all skin types but it may be more noticeable in people with darker skin types. As a result, this condition can be quite psychologically distressing to patients. Several treatment options can be considered by our Dermatologists, including phototherapy which can be effective to restore pigment to the treated areas. Phototherapy treatments are currently covered under Alberta Health Care.
