Mole Removal

Dr. Kurian provides surgical cosmetic mole removal options here at VIDA Dermatology and will provide you with a careful assessment and plan of action best suited for you based on the nature of your mole.

Moles are common growths on the face and body that are frequently harmless but can affect ones’ self-confidence. At VIDA Dermatology, a medical assessment is first conducted by our certified Dermatologists to ensure the mole is benign. Once confirmed, we will review the best cosmetic options for removal given the size, shape and location of the mole on the face or body. The removal of a benign (non-cancerous) growth is considered a cosmetic service. Cosmetic services are not covered by Alberta Health Care and will be charged to the patient directly.  Patients may however have this service potentially covered under their own private insurance plans.

What is a Mole

A mole, also known as a ‘nevus’, is a common benign skin growth composed of pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. They can show up on the skin at any age, even at birth. Most commonly, the number of moles an individual has will increase in number and size starting after age 20. A large number of moles or having more irregularly shaped and colored moles put you at higher risk of developing skin cancer, such as melanoma.

A Dermatologist is the only certified specialist who has extensive training in the skin who can determine if your moles are safe or worrisome.
